8 Ayurvedic Remedies To Fight Dandruff

“Dandruff is like white snow on your black shirt”

The most chafing and mortifying moment of the day is when someone points out the plumes of dandruff on your shoulder. It’s embarrassing, isn’t it? Even we change shampoos, again and again, to get rid of the scratchy scalp, but all goes in vain with that single comment.

But not anymore, readout simple and ayurvedic remedies to treat this white scaly dead skin.

1. Coconut Oil

Coconut oil is a very well-known component of hair benefits. Even doctors recommend the use of coconut oil for hair because it supports hair growth and also increases the thickness of hair. Due to the presence of lauric acid, it can easily penetrate through the hair shaft and strengthen it from within and can reduce protein loss in hair.

However, one can use coconut oil with the following ingredients to intensify its effect-

A. With camphor

With camphor

Camphor because of its antioxidant and antifungal properties, helps in fighting the dandruff-causing fungus Malassezia. These two ingredients when mix together reduces the growth of dandruff.

However, the mixture of these two should be applied for one night, and hair must be washed the next day with shampoo.

B. With Lemon

With Lemon

Lemon is rich in vitamin C and flavoring, which help to fight dandruff. Mix lemon in warm coconut oil and apply it on the scalp. Leave it on for about half an hour before washing it off with a mild shampoo. Continue for at least two weeks for the best results. Coconut Oil moisturizes a dry scalp, while lemon treats dandruff.

Curd is another important element for the purpose as it contains lactic acid which helps to reduce dandruff considerably. Also, the antibacterial properties of this dandruff remedy will ensure that the protein in it strengthens hair from its roots.

Moreover we can use curd to treat dandruff scrapes in following ways-

A. With Lemon

With Lemon

A mixture of lemon and curd can help fight dandruff. The citric acid in lemon and the enzymes in curd helps to eliminate dandruff from hair. Just a bowl of curd with the juice of two lemons squeezed in it applied for an hour and washed with water and shampoo afterward can prove to be really beneficial to get a clean and clear scalp.

B. With mustard oil

With mustard oil

A combination of mustard oil and curd is another successful method to treat the scratchy scalp. A mix of a bowl of curd and 3-4 teaspoon of mustard oil in it, applied for 1-2 hours, and shampooed afterward helps a lot to reduce dandruff.

3. Neem Leaves with Lemon

Neem Leaves with Lemon

Neem leaves are the natural antioxidant, antifungal, and anti-inflammatory material. Since dandruff can mostly be attributed to fungal colonization of scalp, neem helps to remove that fungus. Users can either apply a paste of neem leaves and lemon for 10-20 minutes or neem boiled water(though diluted) to wash the head. For best results, do this twice a week.

4. Amla Paste

Amla stimulates hair growth owing to its high carotene and iron content. You can create its paste for hair by combining it with other herbs that promote hair growth. Moreover, due to its anti-inflammatory and anti-bacterial properties and the presence of vitamin C, it can stop dandruff formation. Additionally, it would also help prevent the itchy feeling that is triggered due to dandruff.

5. Aloe Vera

Aloe Vera is one of the most well-known remedies of dandruff. It contains several bioactive compounds, such as amino acids and antioxidants that reduce dandruff and itchiness caused by it.

The use of aloe vera is simple. Just massage aloe vera onto your scalp before shampooing or you can leave it overnight and wash the next morning. The cooling effects of aloe vera will soothe the itch.

6. Apple-Cider Vinegar

Many people use apple cider vinegar as a dandruff remedy, as the acidity of apple cider vinegar changes the pH of your scalp, making it harder for the yeast to grow and help reducing hair fall and dandruff.

Mix equal amounts of apple cider vinegar and apply this solution on wet hair and Massage well. Leave it on 15 minutes. After letting your scalp absorb the Apple Cider Vinegar mixture, rinse it off with water. Do this twice a week.

7. Aspirin

It is found that Salicylic acid can help exfoliate excess dandruff flakes, prevent oil buildup, and reduce inflammation on the scalp. Because of this reason many anti-dandruff shampoos have salicylic acid in them. More to it, we can use aspirin also for dandruff control as it too contains salicylic acid.

The usage of aspirin is very easy. Just crush one or two uncoated aspirin tablets into a fine powder and mix the powder with regular shampoo and apply it on hair. Leave the mixture for 1-2 minutes on your hair, then rinse it well and wash again with plain shampoo.

8. Garlic & Honey

Garlic is an anti-fungal natural product whereas honey has anti-inflammatory and moisturizing properties. Combined together they form an excellent way to get rid of stubborn dandruff. Crush few garlic cloves and mix it with 2-3 tablespoon honey till you get a smooth paste. Massage this paste on your scalp and leave it on for 15 minutes. Rinse your hair after that. Continue for 3-4 weeks to get results.
